The Law Society of England and Wales and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) are in favour of the compulsory use of the online probate application system, but have also warned that the Ministry of Justice should use caution.

Personal applications have been able to be completed online since late 2016 and was opened up to professionals in 2017 after the non-contentious probate rules changed.

It was made available to all practitioners last October and is thought to be a positive improvement. However, some users, including myself, have reported problems.
