Positive vote for a Minister of Hospitality

Following a 90-minute debate on Monday 11th January 2021, Members of Parliament (MPs) across the political spectrum have voted in support of creating the post of Secretary of State for Hospitality.

The motion came about after MPs' attention was drawn to a petition signed by over 200,000 supporters, including chefs, Angela Hartnett and Tom Aikens; chef and pub owner, Tom Kerridge, and chef and restaurateur, Jason Atherton.

Importantly, the vote will not actually lead to the creation of the post of Secretary of State for Hospitality. However, the public and political support for the measure may place pressure on the Government to create such a post in the Cabinet.
